Job Details

Judith is looking to recruit a full-time caseworker to be based in her Bradford South constituency office. You will work closely with Judith as part of her team to assist her constituents with their queries or issues and to help deliver on her plan to make Bradford South an even better place to live.

You will also be the first point of contact for members of the public.

Key responsibilities:

  • Deal with enquiries from the public by phone, letter, email and in person, taking appropriate action to document, resolve, or escalate concerns/enquiries
  • Research and draft responses or respond to constituents on any issues raised 
  • Manage and appropriately document and progress cases, in an effort to resolve them on behalf of the constituent
  • Liaise with government agencies, council members and staff, businesses, and other agencies to resolve constituents problems
  • Ensure cases are dealt with in a confidential and sensitive manner and ensure records of contact are kept in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation
  • Arranging and accompanying MP to surgeries, and local meetings as required
  • Taking phone calls from constituents and actioning them appropriately
  • Getting to know and understand local issues, so that this knowledge is reflected in case handling
  • Assist with other office tasks as required
  • There may be a requirement for the role holder to work outside of the normal working hours and travel for work occasionally

Person Specification

  • The ability to empathise with constituents and communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to identify constituents’ issues, investigate and respond appropriately
  • Clear and concise writing style
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Sympathetic to the ideals of the Labour Party
  • Experience of working and dealing with the general public
  • Experience of meeting and assisting individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Competent use of IT including full proficiency in Microsoft Office, Outlook and the internet
  • Experience of a casework management system or similar database would be an advantage
  • Holding a driving licence and having access to a vehicle would be desirable
  • A desire to provide a high-quality service to constituents
  • A keen willingness to learn
