Job Title: Policy Adviser

Job Details

  • Engaging with the board/director community in order to identify their key concerns and challenges.
  • Developing policy proposals and insights across several policy areas, with a particular focus on trade policy, aimed at creating a positive environment for boards/directors, IoD members and the wider business community.
  • Taking lead responsibility for the organisation of policy publications, events and other related activities.
  • Working closely with colleagues and volunteers across the national and regional networks, coordinating policy development and engagement strategies where appropriate.
  • Building relationships with external stakeholders
  • Ensuring that all policy output is of high quality, and is consistent with the IoD’s Purpose, Strategy and Core Values.
  • Working in tandem with the Lead Media & Communications and other stakeholders to identify key messages that build the influence and visibility of the IoD.
  • Representing the IoD to external audiences, including policy makers, the media and the IoD membership.
  • Contributing to decisions on whether commissioned research projects provide value for money and enhance the IoD’s brand.

You will have:

  • Experience/knowledge of Trade and/or other area of Business Policy
  • Demonstrable body of experience in public policy development and advocacy
  • Ability to explain complex policy issues to non-expert audiences
  • Excellent oral and written communicator
  • Ability to see how different areas of public policy interact
  • Flexibility in engaging with multiple policy areas, and rapidly identifying the key policy issues from a board/director perspective
  • Understanding of the impact of government policies on boards/directors in the real world
  • Interest in, and understanding of, long-term economic, business and governance trends
