Location: Internet or Constituency Office

Salary: Expenses (travel and travel related subsistence in line with IPSA volunteer rules)

Length of Contract: N/A

Job Details

The impact of Covid-19 has been felt far and wide. Tan Dhesi MP and his team want to make sure we can provide timely support to Slough constituents and businesses in this difficult time.

Tan is looking for committed volunteers to assist his team over the coming months, and perhaps on a longer-term basis. It is our hope that volunteers can support us in maximising the help we are able to provide to those seeking Tan’s assistance and to deliver for the people of Slough.

If you've ever wanted to volunteer your time to help people in need, to support a fantastic local community and its elected MP, or experience what it’s like to be part of an MP's busy team, then this volunteer role might be just for you.

We're looking for volunteers who:

  • Are passionate about helping others and bringing about positive change in people’s lives,
  • Are great with people, working as part of a team and at times on their own,
  • Can be trusted to maintain confidentiality,
  • Take satisfaction from getting stuff done!
  • Show strong communication and IT skills,
  • Can complete tasks independently (with training),
  • Are sympathetic to the values and aims of the Labour Party,
  • Are looking for a longer-term, regular volunteering arrangement.

A broad outline of tasks and activities volunteers might undertake include:

  • Providing basic administrative support,
  • Keeping databases and website up to date,
  • Assisting caseworkers with casework,
  • Assisting in drafting responses to constituents,
  • Monitoring media coverage,
  • Supporting constituency surgeries (from September),
  • Answering the office phone and taking messages,
  • Assisting on projects,
  • Opening and processing post.

If this sounds interesting to you and you think you might be able to contribute to Tan’s team, please consider applying.

PLEASE NOTE: We are seeking committed volunteers to support Tan's office only. We want to be clear that this is not an internship position or a job, and should not be viewed as such. While training will be given for specific tasks, there is no structured programme of training, expected time commitment or fixed end date that we would offer in a paid internship. This position is very unlikely to lead to paid employment with Tan Dhesi MP and is not suitable for anyone seeking more than a voluntary role.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.

W4MP Note:
The role being advertised is a voluntary one. As such, there are no set hours and responsibilities and you should be free to come and go as you wish. If the post demands set hours and/or has a specific job description you may be deemed to be a ‘worker’ and be covered by National Minimum Wage/National Living Wage legislation. See http://www.w4mp.org/jobs-listings-events/jobs/

Closing Date: 27 April 2021

Interview/Start Dates

Due to the confidential nature of Tan's work, we will arrange an interview if we wish to progress with an application. These will be held on an ongoing basis and at a mutually convenient time until applications close. Start dates will depend on security clearance and volunteer availability.
