Sarah Olney, the Liberal Democrat MP for Richmond Park, is accepting applications for a Parliamentary Assistant to work on a short term contract from September 1, 2020 to March 31, 2021, with potential for continuation pending budgetary considerations. This position will report directly to the Parliamentary Researcher.
The Assistant will be responsible for handling incoming correspondence from constituents, other parliamentary offices, committees and MPs, and outside lobbying groups. They will assist in researching and drafting policy, sending out policy information, and in managing the MP's diary and documents. Applicants must have excellent interpersonal skills and writing skills. They must work well under pressure and be able to manage their workload independently to meet short deadlines with high quality work.
Applicants do not need to have a politics degree, but do need to have a keen interest in politics, especially in the areas of business, trade and industry and transport, which are Sarah Olney's portfolios within the Liberal Democrat parliamentary group.
Candidates with experience working in local or national government or politics, including on a voluntary or internship basis, are particularly welcome.
PLEASE NOTE: If the Covid-19 precautions allow, this assistant will work on the Parliamentary estate in Westminster with the Parliamentary team. If not, this assistant will work either remotely from home or possibly from the Richmond Park constituency office in Richmond.
Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
