Job Title: Public Affairs Officer
Working For: NHS Providers
Salary: From £30,000
NHS Providers is the membership organisation for NHS public provider trusts, representing every variety of trust, from large acute and specialist hospitals through to ambulance, community and mental health trusts. We have 100% of all trusts in membership– who collectively account for £74 billion of annual expenditure and employ more than one million staff.
Reporting to the external affairs advisor, the public affairs officer will work across all aspects of the public affairs team’s work. This includes developing our parliamentary engagement and supporting stakeholder and government relations, with the explicit aim of ensuring that the voice of our members is heard across Westminster and Whitehall and that our influence as the voice of the NHS frontline is strengthened with key decision makers.
In a given week you may be asked to write a briefing for the director of policy and strategy ahead of a meeting with a key MP on the state of NHS finances; live monitor health and social care questions and send a summary to the team, picking out the key questions which might have implications for NHS trusts; identify opportunities to engage parliamentarians and initiating contact; draft articles for our fortnightly stakeholder newsletter on issues such as a select committee report on demand management.
This position is ideal for an individual looking to develop their career in public affairs, who has enthusiasm for taking on a wide range of responsibilities, and who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Prior knowledge of the health sector and the NHS would be beneficial but is not essential. The successful candidate will though be able to demonstrate transferrable skills and understanding from working within a similarly complex stakeholder area.
