Job Details

Victoria Prentis MP is looking for a dynamic and flexible individual to join her small, friendly team as her Research/Office Manager for a 12-month fixed term contract (maternity cover).

Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Overall oversight and management of the Westminster and constituency office teams, ensuring accurate personnel records are kept and notifying IPSA of contractual changes as necessary
  • Responsibility for managing all aspects of the budget, keeping the Member informed of all relevant financial matters
  • Overall management of the Member’s diary commitments, delegating tasks to others as appropriate.
  • Advise the Member on policy issues
  • Prepare briefing notes for Committees, parliamentary questions, articles and press releases
  • Draft speeches and content for regular articles
  • Ownership of projects, including local campaigns and drafting consultation responses
  • Monitor media coverage and brief the Member accordingly
  • Develop and maintain current knowledge of Bills, Early Day Motions, legislation, Hansard, debates, etc
  • Research local, regional or national issues to support the Member’s work
  • Draft and table Parliamentary Questions
  • Respond to routine correspondence and enquiries from constituents, the media and other organisations
  • Progress casework as required
  • Deal with complex queries and complaints on the Member’s behalf, including drafting and signing letters
  • Liaise with groups at Westminster, within the constituency and the general public on the Member’s behalf as necessary
  • General administrative tasks

  • Flexibility and willingness to be available during some evenings and weekends
  • Strong written and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work effectively
  • A good team player
  • Sympathetic to the aims and values of the Conservative Party

The following skills are required:

  • At least a year’s experience of working in/for Parliament
  • An excellent understanding of the British political system
  • An excellent grasp of current affairs
  • An excellent understanding of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher

The following skills are preferred:

  • Experience of using the caseworker.mp management system
  • Knowledge of the Banbury constituency
