Job Details

Paula Sherriff MP,  Shadow Minister for Mental Health, is seeking to appoint a full time Constituency Assistant to work in her busy Dewsbury Constituency Office.

Main responsibilities for the Constituency Assistant will be:

• Support Paula’s work in the constituency and in her role as Shadow Minister for Mental Health
• Assist constituency office in providing advice and support to constituents and stakeholders
• Draft policy-related correspondence replies to constituents and others
• Liaise with external agencies to resolve matters on behalf of constituents and others
• Dealing with correspondence, telephone enquiries and emails and providing timely responses
• Undertaking data entry, administration and database management of correspondence
• Ensuring office records are kept efficiently and are up to date
• Media monitoring, assisting with press releases and supporting MPs work across social media platforms
• Stakeholder engagement
• Arranging meetings and visits for the MP
• Accompanying the MP to some meetings and visits
• Undertaking research for parliamentary debates and questions
• Mailing, photocopying and filing

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate that they are / have:

• Previous experience working for an MP or in a similar environment, or have political qualifications to degree level
• Excellent verbal, policy research and writing skills
• Ability to prioritise a demanding workload and work under pressure
• Experience in managing and using social media and making videos
• Must be a supporter of the aims and values of the Labour Party

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
