Rory Stewart, MP for Penrith and The Border, is seeking a full-time Chief of Staff to be based in his constituency office in Penrith, Cumbria, with some scope for travel to Westminster.

The successful candidate will manage and lead Rory’s team who are based in the constituency office. The role requires flexibility, energy, and a close understanding of the MPs role and relationships in his constituency, as well as political awareness. Proven managerial experience – of teams, campaigns, and offices – is desired. The candidate will also be extremely organised with excellent attention to detail, a ‘can-do’ attitude, and will be used to multi-tasking across a broad range of work.

The Chief of Staff will cover a range of management tasks relating to every aspect of the MP role including but not limited to: overseeing all team outputs such as correspondence, research, campaigns and casework; liaising with local and national press; managing the constituency diary; human resources; engagement with constituents, stakeholders, and relevant organisations; and on occasion representing the MP's office when required.

Close liaison with the Westminster office and linking in with parliamentary business may also be required where needed, as well as liaison with Ministerial private offices.

Salary in line with IPSA pay scales and commensurate with skills and experience.

Upon appointment you will be required to comply with the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO). See Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO) page for further info. MPs generally pay staff in accordance with IPSA guidelines.
