This 12 month internship will see the successful applicant spending six-months within Panorama’s Development team and six-months within the Digital Current Affairs team.

Over the course of the placement, the intern will shadow an experienced team of producers and journalists on broadcast (Panorama) and online content ranging from written features and video journalism to social media and live streaming (Digital Current Affairs).

First airing in 1953, Panorama is the BBC’s flagship current affairs programme and is the longest-running public affairs TV programme in The World. Panorama aims to make hard-hitting and thought provoking television that investigates and uncovers stories from around Britain and throughout The World. The placement within Panorama’s Development team will see the intern learn how to research programme ideas, using a number of research tools.

Digital Current Affairs produces digital content for flagship BBC news and current affairs programmes and bespoke social engagement and online content e.g. The Body on the Moor, EU Referendum for BBC Three and BBC Trending. 

So if your current affairs knowledge is unrivalled and you have a positive, can-do attitude, this is the perfect opportunity to take your skills to the next level and become a multi-skilled journalist.

* Research skills (eg how to research contributors, experts, locations and ideas).
* Understanding of all stages of the production process, from development through to postproduction.

* Must have a genuine passion for news, politics and current affairs.
* Journalistic insight and storytelling skills.
* Familiarity with social media and digital tools will be advantageous (e.g. video editing, Photoshop, advanced social media skills and live blogging skills).
* Previous experience working on current affairs/news programmes or in print journalism, or online journalism is desirable, but not essential.
* Foreign language skills would be beneficial but not essential.

* Qualifications in Journalism, English, Economics or Politics advantageous.
